SEMA condemns attacks on hospitals and health workers in Idlib, 29th September, 2017

The Syrian Expatriate Medical Association (SEMA) urges International Community to put pressure on all parties to the conflict, particularly, the Russian and Assad regime forces, to refrain from attacking civilians, civilian infrastructure, health workers and civilians in Syria, as required by the international humanitarian law which considers these attacks immoral and illegal.

According to our key informants and resources, multiple reported attacks on health facilities and personnel within these days in Idleb province, have killed and injured health workers and disrupted health services for thousands of people, and still deprive civilians of the critical trauma care and health services they need.

Since, every day, our health workers risk their lives to care for the sick and wounded, We must continue to protect them and support their life-saving mission.

Hence, we in (SEMA), condemn these attacks, and call for an immediate cessation of the grave violations and for steps to address the essential legitimate demands. We urge the international community to put pressure upon the Syrian Government regime and its agents and third parties to desist from the targeting of medical facilities and medical personnel as these represent reprehensible and barbaric acts.
